Izmir University of Economics - IUE

IUE is established as the first foundation university in Izmir and in Aegean Region in 2001, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) currently has 8 Faculties, 2 Schools, 3 Vocational Schools, 4 Graduate Schools, and 9 Research and Application Centers. These academic units offer 25 associate degree programs, 36 undergraduate programs, 38 graduate programs, and 9 PhD programs. Four of the undergraduate programs are dual diploma programs executed jointly with the USA-(SUNY) New York State University. Izmir University of Economics has ERASMUS program agreements with 169 universities in 26 countries and has academic cooperation protocol with 38 universities abroad as of June, 2016. The Mission of IUE is to educate and equip qualified students with leadership attributes, entrepreneurial capabilities, critical thinking skills and the ability to contribute valuable research in a variety of sciences with the vision of becomeing a pre-eminent institution of higher learning at the forefront of education on a universal level and to pioneer valuable research in a variety of disciplines.

After adopting an international education vision and conducting pioneering research in a variety of disciplines, IUE initiated energy-related interdisciplinary research and studies in 2011. “Sustainable Energy Division” was founded, in line with the basic institutional values of participation, innovation, social responsibility and continued improvement. The division is mainly concerned with investigating the developments in the field of energy markets and policies from an interdisciplinary perspective, covering environmental, social, political, legal, technical and economic aspects. Different lines of researches allow partners to interact from a multi-disciplinary manner by identifying the key research areas of Energy Security, Energy and Environmental Policy Analysis, Energy Management, Energy Decision Making, Energy Supply Modelling, Qualitative Analysis, Econometric Analysis and Quantitative Methods, Energy and Environment Law, Energy Logistics, Energy Technologies Management and Financial Issues.

Sustainable Energy Division is affiliated with Graduate School of Social Sciences and Faculty of Business of IUE. The division is a member of European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) and e3s joint programme. Our division is one of the three members from Turkey, representing Turkish energy research in Europe. It is responsible of managing M.A. in Sustainable Energy and Energy Management and Policies Certificate program, as well as energy related research and studies of IUE. The M.A. program is the first and only interdisciplinary energy studies graduate program in Turkey. Theoretical courses are supported by examples from reallife practices as well as the lectures by the experts of their particular fields. Engaging in close relationships with both public and private sectors, the lecturers are among the top executives of national and international energy companies such as Toshiba, EGEGAZ, STEAG-ISKEN, Polat Energy, Dogerlioglu Attorneys at Law and ENERJISA-EON. The division is in collaboration also with relevant stakeholders in the energy sector including, Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Energy Market Regulatory Authority, Turkish Wind Energy Association (TWEA), International Solar Energy Society -Turkey Section (GUNDER), and TOBB Natural Gas Assembly. IUESEN is also closely collaborating with UN Sustainable Energy for all initiative, UN Global Compact and Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
